The
grounds of Woodburn (c.1830) and Ashtabula (c.1825) Historic
Houses in Pendleton provide the perfect setting for a
personalized outdoor wedding in a lush setting with a
historic flair. Each house has a large open lawn
to accommodate tents and tables as well as large open
piazzas. Adequate parking is available on the grounds
and/or entry roads. Each house has a small catering
kitchen, outside electrical outlets to accommodate caterers
and a sound system as well as dressing area for the bridal
party. Due to the age and value of the furnishings, the
interiors are not available for rental but can be
used as a background for bridal portraits. Self-guided tours with
a docent(s) present to answer questions are provided during
the reception allowing guests to enjoy the interiors of
the house.
- Woodburn
is a graceful four-story clapboard plantation house
(c.1830) conveniently located on 12 acres just off
US76 across from the campus of Tri County Technical College
and just nine miles north of I-85 exit 19B. Woodburn
is located only four miles from the main entrance
to Clemson University and is a 35 minute commute
from the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport.
Woodburn has several lovely ceremony venues from
which to choose: On the front steps of the plantation
house, in front of the Victorian carriage house
with clear views through to the forest beyond, or
on the back lawn. Many brides choose to have the
ceremony in front of the carriage house and then
move to the front lawn of the plantation house for
the reception. Guests are invited to tour through
the house museum during the reception.
Woodburn's lovely grounds can accommodate up to
400 guests without difficulty. The house has double
wrap-around piazzas on the west side and a single
piazza on the east side which are well lighted.
The main piazza is a picture-perfect setting for
a buffet for the wedding reception with guests seated
at tables on the main lawn.

- Ashtabula
is

on 10 acres of open ground located approximately
three miles east of Pendleton on SC Highway 88.
The
house has a very wide first-floor wraparound piazza
on the west and south sides and is best suited
for small weddings with less than 100 guests.
Weddings for more than 100 guests are referred
to Woodburn.
It has a lovely patio area in back of the house
and herb garden on the side for a reception as well
as on the front piazza.
