Visit Ashtabula and Woodburn

The grounds of the Woodburn (c.1830) and Ashtabula (c.1825) Historic Houses in Pendleton provide the perfect setting for a personalized outdoor wedding in a lush setting with a historic flair.  Each house has a large open lawn to accommodate tents and tables as well as large open piazzas, with adequate parking available on the grounds and/or entry roads.

Each house has a small catering kitchen, outside electrical outlets to accommodate caterers, a sound system, and a dressing area for the bridal party. Due to the age and value of the furnishings, the interiors are not available for rental, but can be used as backgrounds for bridal portraits. Self-guided tours with a docent present to answer questions are provided during the reception, allowing guests to enjoy the interiors of the house.

Ashtabula

Ashtabula is a charming two-story clapboard house (c.1825) situated on ten acres of open ground and located approximately three miles east of Pendleton on SC Highway 88. The house has a very wide first-floor wrap-around piazza on its west and south sides and is best suited for small weddings with less than 100 guests. Weddings for more than 100 guests are referred to Woodburn. It has a lovely patio area in back of the house and an herb garden on the side for a reception as well as on the front piazza.

Physical Address: 2725 Old Greenville Hwy (SC88), Central, SC 29630

Woodburn

Woodburn is a graceful four-story clapboard plantation house (c.1830) conveniently located on twelve acres of land just off of US76, across from the Tri County Technical College campus and just nine miles north of I-85 (Exit 19B). Woodburn is located only four miles from the main entrance to Clemson University and is a 35 minute commute from the Greenville-Spartanburg Airport.

Woodburn has several lovely ceremony venues to choose from, including:
  1. The front steps of the plantation house.
  2. The front of the Victorian carriage house, with clear views through to the forest.
  3. The beautiful back lawn.

Many brides choose to have the ceremony in front of the carriage house before moving to the front lawn of the plantation house for the reception. Guests are invited to tour through the House Museum during the reception. Woodburn's picturesque grounds can accommodate up to 400 guests without difficulty. The house has two wrap-around piazzas on the west side and a single piazza on the east side - both of which are well-lit. The main piazza provides a beautiful setting for a wedding reception buffet, with guests seated at tables on the main lawn.

Physical Address: 130 History Lane, Pendleton, SC 29670
